Kilmurry-Ibrickane Parish is in the Barony of Ibrickane in West County Clare. There are a number of O'Brien families living in the parish that I believe are related. I invite you to look at their records and stories on the blog to consider if your O'Brien Ancestors may have originated from this area. Sláinte, Kevin James O'Brien/Caoimhin Séamus Ó Briain I would like to hear your comments and any history on your family. Please contact: killernanfarm@gmail.com
Kevin,
ReplyDeleteWell done on that. It means that any O'Brien visiting your site can see straight away the value of completing a DNA test to find a few cousins!

According to Ancestry my 11th G-Grandfather was Brian Boru. I have had my DNA done by Ancestry. How can I find my relationship to the Obrian's. That would be through the O-Carrol's
ReplyDeleteThat's not correct, Brian Boru was alive 1000 years ago! Typically there are 4-5 generations every hundred years so he may have been a 28th, 29th or 30th Great Grandfather(If you were born after 1955) Your 11th Great Grandparents were born around 1550-1595 depending on what ages they were married - long ago many daughters were married off by 12, 13 or 14 (unfortunately) I have an 11th Great Grandpa born 1565 in one line and an 11th great Grandma born 1595 in another line. You were missing quite a few ancestors it would be prudent to go back and do the research so you have no mistakes in your tree. I've been doing this for 20 years and I'm now writing a book about my family so I don't copy from anyone's tree (EVER that's where mistakes happen), research and find sources then you have correct information.

ReplyDeleteDo the Hynan families today descend from Brian Boru?
